Each practice follows a distinctive, tried-and-tested approach rooted in traditional hatha yoga. My classes explore the three of the eight limbs outlined in Patanjali’s Eightfold Path: asana (movement), pranayama (conscious breath), and meditation, so we can experience the practice in its fuller, richer spectrum.
asana
Asana is the practice of physical postures and movement in yoga. It’s a way to bring awareness to the body, build strength and balance, and prepare the mind for stillness and mediation. Each class uses asana to explore different themes, helping us connect more deeply with ourselves and the practice as a whole.
Pranayama
In yoga, pranayama is more than just taking deep breaths, it’s a way to connect with and regulate the flow of energy in the body, calm the mind, and bring awareness to the present moment. There are different techniques for different intentions, and in each class we explore a theme through a variety of breathing practices.
Kriya Meditations
Kriya meditations are at the heart of the practice. They are advanced techniques in yoga and meditation designed to purify the body, mind, and energy pathways (nadis) through controlled breathing, and visualisation. Rooted in Tantric and Kundalini traditions, these practices often aim to accelerate spiritual growth and deepen states of inner awareness and peace by systematically moving energy up through the chakras (energy centers) along the spine.
Chakras
The chakras are energy clusters in the body, each associated with different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. In Hatha yoga, we work with movement, breath, and meditation to balance and activate these centers, helping prana, or life force, flow freely. By exploring the chakras in practice, we cultivate harmony between body, mind, and spirit, creating a deeper sense of presence and balance in everyday life.
Vayus
In yoga, the Vayus are the five currents of prana, or life energy, that move through the body. Each one has a different role: Prana brings energy in, Apana moves it down and out, Samana balances and digests, Udana supports expression and upward movement, and Vyana spreads energy throughout the body. By bringing awareness to these currents through breath and movement, we can help energy flow more freely and create more ease, vitality, and clarity.
